She left school to work as a bank teller for BNZ, and then moved to the Lion Breweries Hotel chain as 2IC in the restaurant. During her time with this company Deborah progressed to Head receptionist and spent two years in Christchurch.
Travelling to the U.K. and Europe were next on the agenda, returning to work for Apparel Holdings in the Waikato Area office of Warehouse Clothing in 1985.
Branching off with two colleagues saw Deborah opening three women\'s clothing stores in Hamilton, Rotorua and Napier called "Middle of the Road" in July 1987. The stock crash of October 1987 made life in business very tough, and it was only in the late 90\'s that the growth of \'Caroline Eve\' was evident. Caroline and Eve were inspired by her grandmother\'s names and are used today throughout the company.
Currently Deborah is both the Director and buyer of Caroline Eve, which is now a multimillion dollar clothing chain, with 160 staff, a 10 person management team and 20 retail outlets in the North Island- all run from the Waikato.
Strong enthusiasm started Deborah taking her own sewing to the Benson and Hedges fashion awards, she now spends 20 weeks a year buying for Caroline Eve around the world.
Deborah\'s buying formula involves bringing home northern hemisphere fashion trends to be developed for the stores
'

Once she had mastered the skill of disconnecting power on overdue customers she moved on to a company newly formed by the Empower directors called The Water Cooler Company. Here Sonya spent time setting up their office and accounts systems before moving back to the Waikato and joining the Caroline Eve team in 2002.

Sonya was looking for a role she could really sink her teeth into while combining her love of number crunching. Assisting with the move from manually processing accounts to the setting up and implementation of a computerised accounting system was certainly a big learning curve.

She is responsible for the overseeing of accounts payable/receivable, payroll, bank reconciliation, cash flow management and payment planning side of the business.

In September 2003 Sonya left Caroline Eve on maternity leave returning February 2004. She now enjoys the balance of being a working mum, and works four days in the office and one from home.'

Still at school with 5 part time jobs; jean stores, bookshops, hair salons, and waitressing at the local Italian, soon lead to Susie leaving school at 16. Her first full time position was selling home appliances and doing microwave cooking demonstrations. At 17 the family opened \'Potafino\', a handbag and accessories store. Suzie both managed and helped with the buying. The next 3 and half years were spent in London before returning to NZ and Portafino.

Drawn by the bright lights and big city Suzie next worked at Regency Duty Free at Auckland International Airport, moving from here to manage Underground Fashions at Hunters Plaza and then a new store in downtown Auckland. Wanting to diversify her selling and management skills she went on to manage a large furniture store. The new energy drinks were then hitting the NZ market and soon she was spending 2 and a half years building up a client base from scratch, selling and promoting these drinks.

Caroline Eve came next, managing the Howick then Newmarket stores, whilst also filling the company merchandiser role, helping with store openings and merchandising.
This year sees a lot of this experience condensed into her current role as Creative Director. Travelling twice a year for new store ideas, doing the TV commercials, purchasing accessories for the company and doing the weekly lay-ups and promotions, sees Suzie\'s passion for retail being put to good use.
'
