Return of The Skirt
I have been wearing skirts for a couple of seasons now and quite honestly, I used to always wear pants. And I mean always! Then I purchased a midi skirt, which means it is quite long and I just so much enjoyed wearing it, that it became my new wardrobe go-to. I then started looking for other colours and fabrications, and now a skirt is now often my first choice, no matter where I am going.
Firstly, I felt so feminine, more feminine than I had felt in years. It just changed the whole outcome of an outfit by simply swapping the pants for a skirt even though I might be wearing exactly the same top. That is the beauty of wearing a skirt. You don't have to change everything in your wardrobe, but you can easily create a completely different look and feel completely different too.
One skirt that is yet to arrive, but that I want to mention as I am looking forward to it, myself, is the eyelet skirt. It has a simple elastic waistband, with beautiful eyelet texture around the hemline that makes it look so summery. It is coming in two colours: classic black and a gorgeous sky blue. These skirts are definitely something to look out for. Another favourite style for me is the gingham skirt, which comes in three great colourways. There is a classic black-and-white gingham, a navy-and-taupe check, and a lovely soft blue.
I have often paired the soft blue with brown in our photoshoots, as brown and blue are such a nice new combination to wear together. All of these skirts can be worn with blouses, T-shirts, tanks, sweats, and jerseys, or even a jacket if needed. How you style it up sets the scene, whether you're going for more casual look or something a little more polished.
There are lots of gorgeous prints in our new-season skirts, including some lovely 100% cotton styles. From large, oversized spots to small, delicate florals, these are easy skirts to wear on repeat over the summer months. Pair them with minimal flip-flops for a more casual setting or add pointed flats for a crisper look.
We have another range of skirts, florals in a variety of prints. These skirts are made from a rayon-cotton fabric and feature a tie belt, which I love. They also have a slight flair, helping to define the waist. Wear them with a plain top that coordinates with the floral, or go for a stripe and floral together. Yes, it works!
The flared, shirred-waist detail is very strong too this season, and we have used this detailing in our new lightweight denim. It comes in two indigo shades, one light and one darker. The shirred details make these skirts very flexible and comfortable to wear. They are also a great option if you don't normally like a waistband as such. These are very comfortable and forgiving, and honestly sometimes we need that!
There is another lightweight denim style in both indigo shades, featuring a waistband and pockets. It is simply a great everyday denim skirt that isn't overly casual or overly youthful. Sometimes denim can come across that way, but both of these styles have a cleaner finish and are perfect for everyday wear. These are the kinds of pieces you can wear, repeat and wear again.
This is just a taste of what we have, but there's more to come. If you want to give your wardrobe a fresh new feel, and you want to feel feminine and pretty, may I suggest swapping out your pants or mid-calves and trying a skirt? Wear it with flip-flops, pointed sandals, wedges or even sandshoes. Just try it.
