The Look of Velvet

When planning an outfit for a special night out in the summer, you may imagine wearing something floaty and light like chiffon, or perhaps frills. Maybe you would opt for a pretty floral or a pop of gorgeous color. But when it comes to cooler, darker winter evenings, what do you wear?

Exuding opulence, velvet is the perfect go-to for any social occasion in the winter months. Timeless and versatile, I have some velvet garments in my wardrobe that I purchased in New York many years ago, and I continue to reach for these even 20 years later. My velvet collection, including a jacket, coat, and scarf, are classic winter pieces on standby for an evening out. I love mixing velvet with other fabrics for an updated or completely different look. Recently, I pulled out my velvet jacket and wore it with a chiffon pleated skirt to a party, feeling very appropriately dressed for the evening.

By utilizing accessories, velvet can be ramped up for a super glamorized occasion. Think sparkly earrings, glittering accessories, or fancy handbags with sparkles and chains. Taking the time to select shoes that complement and elevate your velvet adds to the overall look. The next time you wear your velvet, you may wish to wear it toned down for a simple occasion. Remarkably, you can even wear velvet with denim! My husband has a velvet blazer and that’s what he would pair it with, guaranteed.

That’s the beauty of wearing velvet; you can style it your way. Take a lovely velvet jacket or top, pair it with a velvet skirt or tailored black trousers and classic pearl earrings, my personal favorite, and you are dressed. Another idea is to wear a velvet skirt simply with a simple black piece of knitwear or maybe add some shine with a sparkly top. Really, with velvet, your options are limitless. Judging by how long I keep velvet in my wardrobe, it is so timeless.

This season at Caroline Eve we have a new velvet look, velour range. With timeless styles, I very well see these lasting years in your closets too. There are three simple style tops: a Sapphire Burnout, Black with Rose Gold dots, or Black with a Silver abstract design. The prices start at $69.99, with sizes ranging up to XXL.

The Velour Jacket is a great style that helps shape your body, with a single button at the bustline to create a nice silhouette. It’s perfect to wear with a skirt or trousers. There is also a skirt option available in plain black, with a frill to add some nice detail. The skirt is priced at $79.99 and the jacket at $109.99.
