If there is one thing I love about winter, it is finally wearing a coat.

On the cooler days of winter, I can wear one of my coats and I always feel more polished when I do. I say one of my coats, although I have actually acquired quite a few over the years. They’re the kind of item you can never just delete from your wardrobe. I’ve often found myself tempted by new styles, colours, checks, and fabrications—each one adding something different to my collection.

I just recently sold a black coat that I purchased in New York about 15 years ago. Which was hard to see go, but my lifestyle has changed over the years. Unfortunately this coat was never being worn, the fox fur trim was a bit much for Tirau. Still, it was a reminder that investing in a quality coat truly pays off, as it’s something you can enjoy for many years to come. I have been away on holiday for a bit, so I was delighted when I walked into the Caroline Eve store a few days ago to see that the new season coats have arrived in all our stores. So, this week I thought I would share with you some of the highlights that I think are fabulous.

The first new item is more a jacket than a coat. It is a smaller and shorter style but has been made out of a cosy coat fabric. I would have to say, this would be one of my favourites for the winter season. It’s a more modern take, shorter in length, with a centre zip, which honestly would be worn open 90% of the time. It has a collar and two patch pockets with buttons for added details. We have this cute jacket in two different colour checks,

both at $149.99. I am loving the olive twill, and there is also a Mocha Black check. This style also comes in plain Navy, Berry, and Charcoal and these are very reasonably priced at $119.99. Definitely worth a look, if you’re after a more modern look to go with wide leg pants and skirts.

Another favourite of mine is the longline double-breasted coat, which I’ve always considered a classic and an essential piece for building a winter wardrobe. I think a lovely long coat can take you from work to an evening out with ease. I especially love this version with a tie belt you can effortlessly wrap yourself in; it always looks polished, no matter how casually you wear it. We have this coat in two very classic colours Black and Navy and these sell at $199.99. These coats are classic investment purchases that will stand the test of time.

One of our most popular styles is the mid-length coat, often referred to as the car coat. I assume it earned that name because the length is ideal for getting in and out of a car with ease. Its shorter cut makes it less overwhelming and it’s a great length if you mostly wear pants. This style is once again appearing in both checks and solid colours and ranges between $169.99 for plain colours and $199.99 for checks.

There’s plenty to think about when buying a coat, but my best advice is to choose a style that suits both your body shape and your lifestyle. As for colour or check—well, I’m afraid I can’t help you there... I have my own struggles choosing between them, as you can probably tell!
